OLD WEREWOLF SHORT STORIES
x

Last year I went down a rabbit hole reading old Werewolf fiction, especially stories from the 1800s featuring female werewolves! Here's a few that I figured I could share :)

Bisclavret (1175) | Marie de France

One of the first werewolf stories! Set around the time of Arthurian legend, Bisclavret is a werewolf whose wife traps him in his lupine & abandons him. Bisclavret evebtually finds sanctuary with the King as he fights to turn himself human once more.

To me, he is gay... but you must read and decide for yourself

The White Wolf of the Hartz Mountains (1839) | Captain Frederick Marryat

A man who killed his wife & her lover flees to the mountains with his three children, and there he meets a beautiful woman, Christina. A white wolf stalks the mountains & tears apart anything in it's path. No one is safe, not even the children.

Features a female werewolf! I won't lie, this is a pretty dark and gruesome one! Prep for slaughter.

The White Wolf of Kostopchin (1889) | Sir Gilbert Campbell

Very clearly influenced by the White Wolf of the Hartz Mountains, following a similar story. After killing a prime minister in a duel, a man named Paul moves to his secluded estate in Kostopchin. He brings with him his two young children, whose mother passed away mant years ago. The vilagers of Kostopchin warn him that the woods are dangerous, filled with witches, demons, and a pack of wolves led by a white wolf.

Surprise, surprise, who does Paul encounter? A beautiful woman named Ravina in the woods covered in blood. Can you guess what happens next? yeah, Paul is pretty into her, and the kids are scared of her, becuase she's sus af.

The Were-Wolf (1896) | Clemence Housman

A strange woman appears in an isolated Scandinavian village, enchanting everyone she meets. Soon after her apperance villagers start going missing.

The story centers around two brothers, one who has fallen in love and the other who remains suspicious of the mysterious woman, White Fell.

Female author & another female werewolf, we love to see it. However, points off becuase the end kind of loses me a bit delving into something of a Christian allegory.
