SO WHAT IS HYPERSPACE HOOPLA?
x

Hyperspace Hoopla was the name of a playful Star Wars stage show that occured during Star Wars weekend's at Disney's Hollywood studios from 2008-2013.

Hosted by announcers Snig and Oopla, Hyperspace Hoopla was an annual dance-off between Star Wars characters, spanning over the entire timeline and defying logic.

The show's atmosphere was cheeky and self-aware, with the hosts making jokes about the characters, their performances, Disney, and the show's history.

Hyperspace Hoopla's popularity inreased exponentially each year, and eventually the performance was moved to a bigger stage near the center of Hollywod Studios. Additionally, the performances themselves grew more eleborate, which longer dance sequences and pyrotechnics.

"A QUOTE FORM THE SHOW IS GONNA GO HERE"

OVERARCHING STORYLINE

While each show functioned as a standalone and followed a similar formula, throughtout the show's lifetime there were many jokes and references to previous years, such as:

  • In 2011, Hyperspace Hoopla was moved to a larger stage near the Sorcery Mickey Hat. When the Emperor makes his appearence, he comments that he lent Snig and Oopla money to build a new stage. He also remarks that he thought they would do soemthing different, but so far they were doing the same old thing

  • THE END OF HYPERSPACE HOOPLA
    x

Disney announced the end of Hyperspace Hoopla in 2013, a few months after they purchased Lucasfilm.

WDW's cancellation of Hyperspace Hoopla was one of Disney's first steps into trying to rebrand Star Wars into a more serious IP. Nowadays, Disney Parks work to maintain a very specific timeline with meet-and-greet characters in Galaxy's Edge and have cut down on the playfullness of Star Wars characters.

Additionally, the show became more risque as it progressed, as seen in the gradual sexualization of their female characters (Both Padme and Leia are introduced in elaborate full body costumes, but in the final show Leia is in slave gear and padme is in a crop top :/ ) and dance sequences that pushed the boundaries of what was family friendly. I would not be surprised if this was a factor in the show's cancellation as well, or an excuse that execs used.
