Star Wars Legends: What are they?
Orignally referred to as the Expanded Universe, Star Wars legends are a collection of books set in the Star Wars universe that were published up until 2014. The first books followed the characters of the orignal trilogy, continuing their stories through the decades. Later books focused on a wider range of characters, going so far as to create entirely new titular characters and lore spanning back to the dawn of the jedi.
In 2014, a few years after their accquistion of Lucasfilm, Disney decided that they wanted to establish their own Canon Star Wars content, and rebranded all previously published Star Wars books as "Legends." Star Wars books are now split into two universes, Canon and Legends. All Star Wars books being published today contain Canon content, content that Disney agrees fit sinto their universe. Legends books are still allowed to exist, but just as that–legends.
My interest in Star Wars Legends
I didn't watch the Prequels until I was in high school, but once I did, I was hooked. The first Star Wars book I read was The Revenge of the Sith novelization, which is a masterpiece. After that I quickly dived into the star wars expanded universe. However, just a few years after I began to consume the Expanded Universe, Disney decided to axe that universe in favorite of a new one.
My Collection
Over the past few years, I've been trying to get my hands on the entire Legends collection through thrift stores & used bookshops!
There's a few reasons for this, one being cost. However, the older released aren't labelled with the ugly "legends" band on the front and spine like new print runs that you'll find in stores. Additionally, I like the challenge of trying to find the original publication covers, which are all absolutely hideous.
