~*~About Warrior Cats~*~

The Warrior Cats series is about the adventures of a group of feral cats that live in the woods. The cats live amongst four primary clans and follow the Warrior Code, the guiding principles that govern their actions. The cats are also guided by Starclan, their deceased ancestors who send them signs & watch over them.

The first book series follows Rusty, a kittypet (housecat) who ventures into the woods outside his home and decides to join Thunderclan. The clan members are distrustful of kittypets, but Rusty soon proves his worth and takes the warrior name of Fireheart. The first arc (books 1-6) Follows Fireheart's journey in Thunderclan as he navigates inter-clan poltics, suspicious depututies, and unravels a mystery in an effort to save his clan. Follow up stories feature Fireheart, but not as a narrating character.

Drama is rich, and plotlines over the series revolve around war, politics, revenge, doomed love, and religious conflict.

Essentially, the neverending appeal of Warrior Cats is that it's a soap opera but with cats. It can't get much better than that.

~*~What Warriors Means to Me~*~

When I was in third grade, my teacher read the first warriors book out loud to my class. I loved animals and I had always been interested in reading, but something in this book really appealled to little third grader me. After we finished the book in class she let me borrow the next four, and I finished up by the time the first series (Books 1-6) ended.

It's crazy to think that I started the series when there was only a handful of books, and now there are over 100 published books.

I kept up avidly with warriors for years. It was my go-to series, I was always looking forward to the next book. In fifth grade I even started a trend of playing Warriors at lunch. Soon the whole schoolyard was divided into clan- it was glorious. Of course, our game was shut down by the man when fights started getting physical. The principal wanted us to solve border disputes with rock paper scissors instead. AS IF.

I haven't read all the books at this point- and I probably never will. I read up through the fourth series, and many many super edition spinoff books. But the series will always hold a nostalgic and special part of my heart.

~*~Erin Hunter~*~

The author of Warrior Cats, Erin Hunter, is not a real person. She's a team of people who write in the WCLU (Warrio Cats Literary Universe). When the series first came out, there were three writers: Victoria Holmes, Kate Cary, and Cherith Baldry. Holmes is the original creator who was first requested by Harper Collins to write the series, but after the first series she stepped back to oversee edits & details.

These days, Erin Hunter is made up of at least nine different writers.

One criticism that readers of the WC series have is that many details seemed to be overlooked, and the appreance of cats often lacked continuity. At the forefront of every book there was a list of each clan and the cats within it. Throughout the books many cats would vanish and reappear, or sport descriptors contradicting previous content. Many people attribute these mistakes to the Erin Hunter problem, or the fact that the books swapped through so many different hands.

~*~The Offical Message Board~*~

The Warrior Cats Forums (The Official Erin Hunter Message Boards) was released in the summer of 2009 and quickly becuase popular amongst fans. It was a thriving hub for fans to discuss the books, share fan content, and roleplay as their own warrior cats. The board peaked in popularity between 2010-2013 and eventually was unfortunately shut down in 2016.

~*~Roleplaying~*~

From my memory, I was a pretty early user of the forum. I was 11 when it poppped onto the scene, and at that age I loved two thing: Warrior cats and playing on the computer. The Warriors Forum was probably one of the first websites I used frequently where I engaged with real life people, and I couldn't get enough out it. I remember have exhilerated I felt talking to people with the same interests. That forum really opened my eyes to so many new things-the fanart inspired me to draw and the introduction to roleplaying really sparked my interest in writing.

I would spend many many years after I left that forum doing online RP. It's been well over a decade since i've done an online RP, but it was a core part of my life for so long. I geniunely think that RPing for so long in my early teens helped me develop writing skills and made me passionate about storytelling.

When I was making this page, I tried to find some of the old forum icons on google, but I hardly found anything.

Disturbed by this lack of archival work, I started combing through the wayback machine and saving some myself. Enjoy some old warriors account icons!

~*~OG Covers~*~

Original WC covers by Wayne McLoughlin you will always be iconic.

I've always adored the original covers for the books. Sadly, they've been replaced with new covers that look like shit. The new ones are below. They're terrible.

~*~Warrior Cats Adventure game~*~

The Warrior Cats Adventure Game is a pen and paper TTRPG set in the Warriors Universe. The full manual is about 50 pages long and contains different plotlines & adventures for your cats to embark on. As far as TTRPG it lacks more complex mechanics, but it's aimed for a younger audience who has probably never played a TTRPG before.
